On Mandela Day (July 18, 2025), Dr. Bruce Wong, founder of the Bruce Wong Foundation, visited Nelson Mandela’s historic home on Vilakazi Street, Soweto, accompanied by his humanitarian partner, Mrs. Sue Wong. This symbolic visit was not merely ceremonial but a spiritual tribute to Mandela’s enduring legacy of justice and human dignity.

Dr. Wong, a Cambodian refugee who fled the Khmer Rouge regime in 1980, has since become a prominent global humanitarian voice. His foundation delivers education, healthcare, and social justice to marginalized communities worldwide. His recent visit followed his speech at the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, where he advocated for refugee rights and universal access to education and health.

In Soweto, Dr. Wong reflected on Mandela’s spiritual legacy, emphasizing that Mandela Day must inspire action, not just remembrance. He also highlighted the foundation’s recent award-winning campaign, Strong Words for Return, and its recognition of media as a force for positive transformation.

The visit served as a reaffirmation of the foundation’s mission and Dr. Wong’s belief that “each one of us can be a Mandela” in our own communities.
